July 1709: Swedish King and Grand Captain Charles XII invaded Russia and laid siege to the Russian city of Poltava to bring the Russians to battle. Russian Czar Peter arrived but sheltered the bulk of his army in a fortified camp and built several redoubts to cripple any attempted Swedish attack. Battle of Poltava is a tactical game of low to moderate complexity covering the decisive battle of the Great Northern War in 1709. The game lasts about 90 minutes. One player commands the Swedish forces and the other player commands the Russian forces.
