Black Seas : Razeed 3rd Rate & 4th Rate

As small ships of the line became less useful in fleet actions due to the increasing size and armament of the larger ships, many were "razed". This involved removing the quarterdeck and forecastle or reducing them to only two decks.

The resulting Razeed ships were more stable in rough seas and faster. The 64-gun 3rd class ships were razed to become 44-gun ships - they were classified as frigates although they were generally more capable than the purpose-built frigates of the time. HMS Indefatigable is a well-known 3rd Rate Razeed.
