Solo air combat game: play as a pilot of one of seven different nationalities.

Western Front Ace: The Great War in the Air 1916-1918 is based on the popular, action-packed Nightfighter Ace game system created by Gregory M. Smith, and is the third game in the series, with a strong pilot-centric narrative as you seek to increase your prestige, acquire skills, rank up through promotion and receive rewards.

Each round consists of a sortie, during which combat usually takes place. The player can choose one of seven different nationalities to fly for, and can be based in one of the many bases along the trench lines or in Italy.

The aim of the game is to fly numerous sorties in the role of a reconnaissance pilot and win victories. Pilots can use the experience they gain to improve their chances of success by purchasing skills. As their prestige increases, they can apply to be transferred to other fighter bases to take part in major ground offensives, or apply for a new type of reconnaissance aircraft. Rewards and ace status help tell the story of the player's ultimate goal: to become the best "Ace" in the war.

The system is packed with rich technical detail, without being complex, to capture the key historical aspects of air battles in Europe during the Great War. For fighter aircraft only, there are 42 aircraft models to choose from. The game is very accessible for those already familiar with The Hunters, Silent Victory, Nightfighter Ace or Interceptor Ace, and was designed by Gregory M. Smith. The game system lends itself very well to the depiction of tense aerial battles over the trench lines of Europe. Although Western Front Ace was designed as a solo gaming experience, additional options are provided for cooperative or competitive multiplayer gaming sessions.

Excellent jeu solo.
