The Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde are fine light horsemen, skilled in melee combat and in harassing the enemy. Napoleon's respect for this regiment was evident as he often wore the green uniform of the Chasseurs.
Among the most colorful regiments in Europe, the Chasseurs de la Garde were more flamboyant and resourceful than their Grenadiers-a-Cheval counterparts, but they were also less disciplined and sometimes had to be ordered to salute generals or stop smoking their pipes during escorts. This earned them the undesirable nickname of "spoiled brats.
