Developed in the 1950s and modernized in the 1980s, the Stridsvagn 103 S-Tank is the first main battle tank to use a turbine engine and dispense with a turret. This unconventional model features a unique gun-laying process: its fixed gun is moved by engaging the tracks and raised by adjusting the hull suspension. The result is a highly unobtrusive design that emphasizes survivability and a high level of crew protection.
