Now, who is sitting at the top of the tallest tower?

In medieval times, in Volterra, Tuscany, it was customary for rival families to compete for buildings. The higher the tower, the richer the family. Even today, the remains of this competition - the "towers of the dynasty" - can still be seen in many Tuscan cities.

Wealth is not important in the Volterra tactical game. Here the towers rise upwards thanks to the tactical skill of the master builders. The pieces in play are stacked on top of each other, step by step. The playing pieces do their utmost to defend their rooks of their own color. Construction continues on the playing area, which narrows until no pawn can move.
