Islebound: Emerald Edition removes the book resource from the original game and replaces it with emeralds. Emeralds have a different use from books. They are collected when visiting a player-owned city and when taking control of a city.

Emeralds must be used to purchase building cards, and they can also be used to perform special abilities, such as keeping pirates and snakes after battle!

The modified building cards come from both the original game and the Metropolis expansion. There will be no building card expansion for Islebound: Emerald Edition, and the Metropolis expansion is not compatible with this version.
