A mysterious edifice rises from the hilltop, bathed in twilight.
Fascinated by the pagoda's strange aura, you decide to investigate. Suddenly, a laugh, a shadow that isn't yours, and an eye with ominous intentions come to life. You've broken the peace of ten powerful Japanese spirits (called Yokai) resting there! Can you find a way to appease their wrath?
A game of Yokai Pagoda is played over 3 rounds, always playing one card per turn, until someone finishes the current round. To play a game, the 100 numerical cards (divided into 10 types of Yokai, numbered 1 to 10) are shuffled, two cards are placed face-up to start the two discard piles, then seven cards are dealt to each player. Place the rest like the Pagoda deck, between the discard piles.
When you play a card, deal one of the following effects:
If you're playing with the same Yokai or the same number, you can give a card from your hand to someone else.
With a different Yokai and a higher number, you can draw a card at random from the deck -or- the first face-up card from the opposite discard pile.
With a different Yokai and a lower number, you can continue the round as if nothing had happened -or- end the current round, but only if you have a total of three points or less in your hands. But... you only have to take into account the lowest card of each type of Yokai you have!
At this point, each player puts the cards in his or her hand into a personal reserve. After 3 rounds, the player with the fewest points in his reserve wins, but... once again, you only have to take into account the lowest card of each type of Yokai you have.
Try to balance out the lost cards, or keep exactly the number you need to reduce your score when the other player finishes the round. In Yokai Pagoda, knowing when to give away a card, keep playing or end the round makes all the difference!

Un jeu de defausse simple et profond, rapide à expliquer. Les illustrations sont jolies si l'on excepte le dos des cartes, les parties s'enchaînent et on en redemande. Ce jeu mérite vraiment que l'on s'attarde dessus.
