MENTALIS 2 games in 1. The more convivial challenge mode, all winners are rewarded by the Bank and at the end of the game the luckiest one wins. MENTALIS is a card game that consists of:
- 52 traditional cards and 3 jokers,
- 28 announcement cards from 0 to 7 (blue),
- 07 turn cards from 1 to 7 (orange)
- 50 banknotes of 1 Talis
- 50 banknotes of 5 Talis
- 50 banknotes of 10 Talis.
It's a game that can bring together all generations, friends and family.
It can be played from the age of 10 and with 2 to 7 players.
Duration of a game is about an hour.
Challenge mode
The challenge mode is played without jokers. 52 standard cards, in ascending order from 2 to Ace.
4 suits: spades, clubs, diamonds and hearts.
HEART is the permanent trump.
One player taking part in the game also acts as banker. He will be responsible for paying the winners at the end of each round. He starts the game by dealing in a clockwise direction, each player receives 4 announcement cards numbered from 0 to 7 (reversible) which are used to indicate the number of tricks they think they will win. They keep them throughout the game. The banker lays down the turn 1 card. The game can begin with the classic cards. 1st turn each player receives a card after having noted its value without showing it to the other players, they make their bid using the bid cards. They bid 0 if they do not think they will win the trick or they bid 1 if they think they will win it.
All the players make their announcement one after the other, then reveal their card in turn. The player who was dealt first starts to lay down his card, so it is he who indicates which suit to play (spades, clubs, diamonds or hearts).
If you have the required suit, you must play it; otherwise, you can trump the heart if you want to win the trick, but you don't have to trump if you don't have the required suit. You can also lay a card of another suit to get rid of it.
The aim is to follow suit.
At the end of the round, all players who have successfully made their bid receive 5 talis from the bank plus 1 talis per trick won.
The banker lays down the turn 2 card. The next player deals 2 cards, one by one in a clockwise direction to each player. Each player makes their bid using the bid cards. The round is played, each player who has made a successful bid receives 5 Talis and 1 Talis per trick won, however if your bid is not successful but you have won several tricks then you receive as many Talis as tricks won. You do not receive the 5 Talis reward.
The banker plays the turn 3 card. The next player deals 3 cards to the players. This continues until 7 rounds, i.e. 7 cards are dealt to each player following the same procedure, then the game continues by dealing in descending order, i.e. 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 card following the same rules. The game is over, everyone counts their Talis. THE ONE WITH THE MOST TALIS WINS.
Expert mode
Add the 3 jokers to the 52 cards. The joker takes precedence over all the other cards, even over the heart, and can be played at any time. A trick cannot be started with a joker unless you have only one card. If several jokers are played during the same trick, the last one played takes precedence.
Each player receives 100 Talis, which consists of:
- 50 Talis in 10-note denominations,
- 40 Talis in 5-note denominations,
- 10 Talis in 1-note denominations.
Each player puts 5 Talis in the pot before the start of each game.
The game is started in the same way as in the challenge mode. After receiving their card in the first round, each player makes their bid. Players may not bid more than the number of cards dealt. The player or players who made the highest bid are designated as Experts. The player who made the highest bid wins the Pot and receives 1 Talis from all the other players for each bid placed and won.
Example 1: The Expert player had bid 3, he won his 3 tricks so he wins the Pot or everyone has paid 5 Talis plus 3 Talis from each player. Even if the other players have respected their bid they have lost because ONLY THE HIGHEST BID IS A WINNER. If 2 players have made the same highest bid and have succeeded, they share the Pot equally and both receive the Talis from the other players.
Example 2: The Expert player has not succeeded in his bid, the player or players who have made the lower bid win the Pot and receive one Talis per trick won from the other players.
Example 3: Not all players have made their bid, they have all lost. The Pot remains and is added to the next Pot.
The game continues according to the same rules as for the 14-game challenge mode, dealing first one card, then two up to seven and then seven down to one, applying the specific rules of the expert mode.
The game is then over. If certain players have no more Talis during the game to add to the pot, they are eliminated. THE ONE WITH THE MOST WINS.
