The game is a hex and counter game where troops are activated via a standard deck of cards: the black one activates French units, the red one Coalition units. The number and type of units are determined by the card in question.
Combat is resolved by comparing the combat strengths of the units and drawing cards from the same deck. When a joker is drawn, the turn is over, the deck is reshuffled and a new turn begins.
The player who controls both Probstheide (L4) and Wachau (O3) wins the game, otherwise it is a draw.
