Primogenita is a brigade-level wargame about the East African campaign in 1941.
It covers the Allied invasion of Italian Eritrea in the north where the most intense fighting took place, particularly around the town of Cheren.
The Allies invaded Eritrea with two Indian divisions and some Free French units. The defending Italians consisted mainly of colonial brigades, recruited from Ethiopians and Eritreans.
They also had two metropolitan divisions in reserve, including several elite battalions of the "Grenadiers de Savoie" division that were sent to northern Eritrea. These battalions (Alpini and Bersaglieri), along with loyal Eritrean colonial troops, held off the two Allied divisions for eight weeks at Cheren before the survivors were finally forced to retreat to the Eritrean capital, Asmara.
The Battle of Cheren is considered a finest hour in the Italian army.
The game introduces a dynamic system of drawing order tokens. You decide in advance during each order segment on a set of orders, each with a certain priority value, just like your opponent. The priority value decides which order will be executed. You will need to choose wisely based on the forces you have, when you want things to happen, and what you think your opponent will choose.
