The Battle of the Atlantic in modern times. NATO versus Russia.

Land battles are abstracted, although air strikes and missiles against front lines are introduced in the third scenario.

The three scenarios can be combined to depict a Third World War across Europe.

Close the Atlantic takes place in the 21st century, from April to September, based on a D6 die roll. In October, the risk of hurricanes increases, seriously hampering operations. Turns are weekly, starting with the first week of the month, decided by die roll.

The game summarizes the technical details of the different types of equipment. Counters represent one unit (such as a submarine), several units (up to 100 aircraft) or a group of ships. Numerical counters are provided to slide under the counters to indicate the number of units during combat. For example, the number of missiles fired.

Special note:

  •     Launching a helicopter is either an action or a reaction.
  •     After launch, a helicopter can make a detection attempt, but the enemy first has the opportunity to act or react.
  •     Helicopters can be launched as an action even if no enemy is present, one at a time. This replaces the need to counter or place them on the map.
  •     Helicopters are placed on or near the parent counter and remain with that counter.
  •     Landing a helicopter is not an action or reaction; simply remove the helicopter counter(s).
