Protect the village and defeat your enemies!
Evil had assailed the village and we were their last hope. We couldn't ignore our duty, so we embarked on a final quest. One by one we fell, until I was the last survivor. Standing my ground, I swung my axe one last time. As I crashed to the ground, I knew I'd finally found peace.
Each card is double-sided: a demon and a hero. At the start of the game, the player sets up 2 stacks of demon-facing quests and a group of 3 hero-facing cards. Next, an immediate threat is revealed from the deck in the form of the current demon card, which may or may not be dealt with. If not killed, the demon card goes into one of the quest piles and an event written on it takes effect. If it is killed, the demon card is returned to the hero side and becomes a member of the group.
The player can also ignore the immediate threat of demons and go on a quest to obtain the victory condition, or negotiate with certain demons to turn them into heroes, but at the cost of the hero's morality: the hero is returned to the demon side and joins the demon draw deck.
The game is won when the hero obtains the required number of quest cards using a combination of the four symbols drawn on each card. The game is lost when there are 3 dead in the graveyard, or when a quest pile contains 4 demons, or when the group has no demons left.
