Finis Terrae - 1st Edition

Finis Terrae is a game of Exploration, Trade, and Piracy where each player is tasked with navigating a game map that forms differently and unexpectedly each time, simulating the map of an unknown world.

In this expanse of sea and abyss, territories will gradually be revealed, along with the objectives and strategies to pursue: rescuing Castaways, recovering buried Treasures and underwater Artifacts, establishing new Trading Ports, and trading Spices. Explorers will be hindered by Pirates and Adverse Weather and can even engage in piracy themselves.

The winner will be the one who proves to be the most skilled navigator, collecting the most points in the three categories: Exploration, Trade, and Colonization (*).

Each game turn is divided into 4 phases:

Cartographic Phase: Each player places some game tiles, revealing a new part of the map.
Preparatory Phase: The weather and trade conditions for the turn are defined.
Navigation Phase: The explorers sail the sea, founding ports, trading spices, and recovering Treasures and Castaways.
End of the Day: Players prepare for the next day's navigation. The player going first is determined at the end of each turn according to the "Sunrise Rule" (whoever is furthest east), while the Pirates are controlled by each player in turn, changing their strategy and affecting all players.

Not everyone is an honest Merchant in Finis Terrae; each Explorer can choose to engage in Piracy and plunder other explorers.

Due to its nature, Finis Terrae can accommodate different play styles: from a more straightforward approach (without too much thought) to a more strategic and challenging experience. A moderate element of luck helps to lighten the game's medium weight.
