A 5th class ship launched as Unité, sailing for the French Navy before being captured in 1796 by the Royal Navy and renamed HMS Surprise.

HMS Surprise is perhaps the most famous ship used by author Patrick O'Brien in his novel Jack Aubrey, as well as in the movie Master & Commander.
