During a game of Niwashi, the two partners (the players) build a garden together, in order to achieve as many of their objective tiles as possible.
You are two new gardeners in charge of maintaining the Nantoka-Ji gardens. Follow the monk's instructions to complete the objectives. During a game of Niwashi, the two partners build a garden together, trying to complete as many objectives as possible.
Taking it in turns to respect the tranquility of the site, players place a Garden tile or give directions to their partner using the Lantern, as direct communication is forbidden! In fact, you can't talk during the game. It's up to you to make your objectives clear through the way you place your tiles, colors and lantern.
The tiles are 'triple' dominoes filled with 3 plots corresponding to the seasons (plus sand). Place one on your turn, orthogonally, and overlapping at least one or two plots already present. By doing so, you may just form the patterns requested by the Objectives!
If you need your partner's help, place the Lantern counter in the right place so that he understands your needs.
Try to get the best possible score, then move on to the Journey, the challenging part of the game, for the most experienced gardeners!
