He is one of the most imaginative and talented Flemish artists of the Antwerp School! Pieter Bruegel (ca. 1525-1569) is famous for his genre paintings: popular scenes, fairs and carnivals full of characters. Some in the line of Jerome Bosch. Was he a simple observer of the life of the people? Or a scholar delivering a message about the oppression of the poorest in an era marked by religious wars? His incomplete biography allows only hypotheses. Nevertheless, his original painting, of great technical virtuosity, was emulated by many, including his own sons.
